Welcoming & Affirming

Peace Hill’s position on Gay, Lesbian, & Bisexual Christians

Peace Hill Christian Fellowship welcomes and affirms all who seek to follow Christ. This includes those who identify as gay, lesbian, or bisexual. As Scripture teaches us, our primary identity is in Christ. We reveal our relationship with Christ by how we love each other. Because of this, we celebrate selfless love that reflects the fruits of the Spirit, wherever that love is demonstrated. We welcome faithful followers of Jesus into every aspect of our church life–not just attending and worshiping with us, but celebrating communion, getting married, and serving in any church roles. We affirm that these people are beloved sons & daughters of God, and we do not believe that God demands that they change their orientations. We did not come to this decision lightly, but only after years of study, prayer, discussion, and listening. Since we take the Bible’s authority very seriously, we wanted to be sure that we were not trying to evade its commands. But we found that the practices the Bible was condemning were not the same as what we were dealing with as a congregation today.

Peace Hill Christian Fellowship is a church that strives to connect to each other and to the world through our common bond in and relationship with Christ. This means that we often find ourselves fellowshiping with and worshiping alongside people we don’t always agree with or see eye-to-eye with. It is not always easy to practice unity in Christ, but it is fruitful and powerful. Christ, who binds us together, is more powerful than our differences. We return again and again to the law of love to lead us in the places we disagree. Showing kindness, patience, love, faithfulness, and peace when practicing community with people who are different from us. We take very seriously Jesus’s command to love God and love our neighbor.

We’ve put together a list of some of the resources (books, articles, and videos) that were helpful to us in this process. View that list here.
